Happy 30th Birthday, Katy Perry!

Credit: Christie GoodwinKaty Perry turns 30 Saturday, and according to reports, she'll be spending her big day with her friends and her crew in Morocco -- and possibly scarfing down a cake covered in Betty Crocker Rainbow Chip frosting.  But whether or not the singer actually feels 30 is a different matter."I still feel 13 on the inside," Katy told People magazine back in July. "I think you see a lot of my [inner] child in the show onstage.  I tweeted the other day, 'Sometimes it's hard being a child in this adult body.'"  But Katy did say that she had some serious goals for the next decade of her life."I just want to be able to continue to stay self-aware and as unaffected as possible," she says. "I just want to stay authentic and keep dreaming my dreams."Since 2008, when her single "I Kissed a Girl" hit #1, Katy's life has indeed been a dream, teenage or otherwise.  Yes, things haven't exactly worked out for her in the romance department -- her marriage to Russell Brand ended in divorce, and she split with boyfriend John Mayer earlier this year -- but career-wise, things couldn't be better. Among Katy's achievements: she's scored nine #1 hits and is currently the best-selling digital artist of all time, with over 72 million singles sold worldwide.  While a Grammy has eluded her, she's won multiple American Music Awards, People's Choice Awards, Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. In addition, Katy has headlined sold-out world tours, appeared in movies and on TV, signed lucrative endorsement deals with companies like Cover Girl, launched several perfumes and a line of accessories, and has done extensive charity work.  She's also inspired millions of fans, whom she calls "Katycats," with her empowering anthems, such as "Roar" and "Firework."Katy will resume her PRISMATIC world tour November 7 in Australia, and wrap things up for the year December 20 in Auckland, New Zealand.  She's rumored to be performing at Super Bowl halftime in February, though that has yet to be officially confirmed.  Her tour will pick back up again February 16 in Barcelona, Spain.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Mariah & Nick's Kids Unaffected by Their Parents' Split, Says Nick

Angela Weiss/WireImageMariah Carey and Nick Cannon's marriage may be on the way to being over, but their split hasn't affected their twins at all, according to Nick.Appearing on Friday's Meredith Vieira Show, Nick said of twins Moroccan and Monroe -- affectionately referred to as "dem babies" -- "They're just happy. They love mommy.  They love daddy."  That's because, as Nick explained, the kids are used to one of their parents or the other being gone for long periods of time."We have always been people who have been on the go, coming and going, their life hasn't changed one bit," Nick told Vieira. "We spend holidays together, we do everything that we are supposed to do together as a family."Nick also decried the media's coverage of his and Mariah's marital issues, saying, "You know, the media, they can say whatever they want to say and obviously, because you are not giving them anything...they kind of create all these stories and make it way worse than it actually is." Asked to name a particular rumor that irks him, Nick said, "You know what I heard the other day? I heard that there's a family dispute over our eight dogs!"  He added that what's needed now is for him and Mariah to ignore the distractions and just be "focused on family and what's right and getting through these times and doing what's right for the kids, so that's just where we are."The twins are currently with Mariah as she tours Asia.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Backstreet Boys Set Sail Today on 2014 Fan Cruise: "It's a Blast," Says Nick Car

ABC/Lou RoccoEvery year, it seems, another act announces that it's starting their own fan cruise, but the Backstreet Boys have been doing it -- very successfully -- for several  years now.  This year's installment gets underway on Friday, and as usual, the guys have a lot of great activities planned for their fans.  According to Backstreet's Nick Carter, that the key to a successful fan cruise."You have to engage," he tells ABC News Radio.  "It's an opportunity to get really close to your fans and give them that opportunity that they don't really necessarily get. And we put on shows on the cruise, I mean, we're always trying to top ourselves and do something new."And concerts aren't the only things fans get from the Boys on the cruise. There'll also be a Q&A session with the group, A.J. McLean is hosting a poker tournament, and Howie Dorough is hosting a blackjack tournament.  "When people comes on the cruise, what goes on the cruise, stays on the cruise," Nick laughs. "No, it's a party. The fans come out, they get a room, we throw night parties, three nights in a row -- literally, people are crawling and limping off the cruise by the time they're done!"The theme parties are always a highlight: this year, one night will see the boys hosting "Backstreet's Back Halloween Night: The Mummy's Revenge," while another night will be an "ABC" party -- which means "Anything But Clothes."  That's right: fans and the Boys will all attend the party wearing....something, just not actual clothing.  According to the group, trash bags, saran wrap and cardboard boxes are all possibilities. The cruise sets sail from Miami on Friday for four days aboard the Carnival Ecstasy, returning on Monday."It's great," says Nick. "You go to the Caribbean, go swimming...events, it's a blast, you know?"  Some of the bands that held their first-ever fan cruises over the past year include Train, Paramore and Matchbox Twenty.  So far, only Train has announced plans to do it again.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Author: "Billy Joel: The Definitive Biography" Will Show Piano Man "Really Is Th

Crown Archetype/Random HouseIn 2011, Billy Joel pulled the plug on his autobiography,The Book of Joel, citing concerns that it was being marketed as a "salacious tell-all."  But  much of the material destined for that book is being released on Tuesday, in the form of a new book called Billy Joel: The Definitive Biography.  The author is the same guy who worked with Billy on the scrapped book, and he says this new one will confirm what the public already knows about the Piano Man: he's a decent guy.Speaking to Newsday -- Billy's hometown paper -- author Fred Schruers says, "There's a reason he's...very well loved. I don't think the public really wants to know the bad stuff, though it's in there. They have their imaginings about Billy, and some of them are reflected by the reality. He's had his bumps. It's very hard to say this without sounding too Pollyanna-ish, but he really is that good guy that everyone wants him to be."Schruers says the idea to write a biography of Billy came about in 2012, when he ran into the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and the two came to a "handshake agreement" that Schruers could proceed.  Not only that, but Billy gave Schruers permission to use all the material that he'd gathered for The Book of Joel for the project.  "'I'll help you out' was his phrase," Schruers tells Newsday.  The author ended up using nearly 100 hours of interviews he'd done with Billy, as well as interviews he'd done with members of his inner circle over the years. As for why Billy scrapped The Book of Joel in the first place -- even returning a seven-figure advance -- Schruers said the project simply came at a bad time in the singer's life."I don't think he hated what we had done together," says Schruers. "But when your dad dies and you're going through a divorce, you're in hip pain and you're pretty emotionally battered, it's not something you want to talk about all the time in interviews. You want more of a peak moment to put that book out."Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Taylor Swift Visits "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" to Plug New Album, Perform Two Songs

Big Machine RecordsTaylor Swift appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thursday to plug her new album and perform two songs at an outdoor stage in front of nearly 15 thousand fans who lined Hollywood Boulevard outside Kimmel’s studio. The 24-year-old singer/songwriter told Kimmel she’s “more confident” about this album than she’s been about any of her previous releases. Taylor said it’s a “really nice feeling” to have but added, “it’s almost like you’re releasing this thing into the world that you spent two years with, and it’s just been mine for two years and now it’s everybody elses.”Taylor joked that it’s like she’s "sending it off to college."Earlier in the week, Kimmel had fans submit questions for Taylor via Skype, and he read one of them on the air. A fan asked if all our memories were erased, but Taylor could pick one song from 1989 that we all would remember, which would it be and why? Swift said she would choose the song “Clean,” the last track on the album.  She wrote it with British singer/songwriter Imogen Heap.  Taylor said of the tune, "It's just a song that's really special to me and it's been one that kind of everyone is really talking about."  Taylor told Kimmel, "I think it's a song that might help people go through things."Kimmel also told the story of Taylor showing up at the studio in 2005 when she was 14 years old to try to get on the show.  “Taylor came to our show with her mom and her guitar, and somehow she got a hold of the guy who books bands here, Scott Igoe, and she asked if she could play a song for him,” Kimmel recalled.Kimmel said Igoe told Taylor she wasn't allowed in the show’s green room because they served alcohol and he threw her out.Flash forward to Thursday night: Kimmel announced on the show that he’s decided to make it up to Taylor by having security guards “toss” Igoe, who still works for Kimmel, out of the building.  Later in the show, Taylor performed her hit "Shake It Off," and the song "Out of the Woods."1989 arrives Monday, October 27, the same day Taylor appears on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and makes her debut later that night as a mentor on The Voice.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Sting Talks Tantric Sex in Advance Clip for "Inside the Actors Studio"

Tony Behar/NBCUSting is not only a singer and songwriter, he's also an occasional actor, having appeared in quite a few movies over the years.  But during his appearance this Thursday night on the series Inside the Actors Studio, he ended up having to talk to host James Lipton, not about his craft, but about his sex life.Specifically, Lipton asked Sting about his infamous quote regarding "Tantric sex," in which he and his wife Trudie Styler allegedly had eight-hour lovemaking sessions.  Sting has since backpedaled, saying the whole thing was a joke, but in an advance clip from the episode, Lipton still insists he explain the audience of young people just what he meant."If we had seven hours, I would demonstrate," Sting said, to huge laughs and cheers.  "Maybe not. But there is some truth to it.  The idea of tantric sex is a spiritual act. I don't know any purer and better way of expressing a love for another individual than sharing that wonderful, I call it, 'sacrament.' I would stand by it.  Not seven hours, but the idea."He then quipped, "Seven hours includes movie and dinner," getting another round of laughs.Sting's appearance on Inside the Actors Studio, which airs Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo, is mostly focused on the opening of his first Broadway musical The Last Ship.  He wrote the music for the show, which is based on his own childhood growing up in a shipbuilding town in the north of England.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Pink, U2 & Bob Seger Debut Score Top-10 Debuts

RCA RecordsPink, recording under another name, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Bob Seger and U2, have all notched top-10 debuts with new albums on this week's Billboard Top 200 album chart.Seger's new album, Ride Out, enters at #3.  It's the 69-year-old Detroit rocker's highest-debuting album ever, and his highest rank on the chart since 1986. In at #4 is rose ave, the debut album from the musical duo You + Me.  The duo features Pink and Canadian singer/songwriter Dallas Green.  On her own, Pink has scored seven top-40 albums, while Green has scored two, under his usual musical moniker, The City and Colour. In a statement, Pink, who for this project is using her birth name of Alecia Moore, said, “We really had no intention for this to become what it is. We were just two friends getting together and doing what we love and I couldn’t be more proud of what we accomplished.” Green adds, "I am so very thankful for my friend Alecia and the beautiful music we've made together. We had no idea what would come of these songs and knowing that people are listening and loving it as much as we do is humbling.“As for U2, their much-maligned new album Songs of Innocence enters at #9.  While the album was downloaded 26 million times globally after the album was offered to iTunes users last month, those downloads were free, so they didn't count toward a chart position.  The album was made widely available for purchase last week and sold 28,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.  This is U2's first album since the release of 1987's The Joshua Tree not to debut in the top three. In at #10 is "Domino" singer Jessie J, with her second U.S. release, Sweet Talker. The #1 album on the chart is from country duo Florida Georgia Line, who scored a huge pop hit with "Cruise." This is their first #1 album on the general Billboard album chart, as opposed to the country album chart. It's worth noting that Sam Smith's debut album, In the Lonely Hour, has risen to #6 on a 53% sales gain, following his high-profile TV appearances on NBC's Today show and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Colbie Caillat Trying to Live the Message of Her Hit "Try," Wishes Others Would

ABC/Adam TaylorColbie Caillat's latest hit "Try" is a call for women to stop trying to mold themselves into a certain image or adopt certain behaviors so they'll fit in, be liked or be considered attractive.  While Colbie says she wrote the song as a message of empowerment to herself, she says she's happy to see that everyone can relate to it.  Take her appearance on ABC's Dancing with the Stars a couple weeks ago, for example.During the show, Colbie performed her hit "Try" while YouTube star Bethany Mota and her partner Derek Hough danced a routine inspired by the bullying that Bethany had to endure when she was younger.   "I loved it," Colbie says. "It meant so much to me because...Bethany's message, what she was trying to portray from what she's always felt her whole life, is something I've always felt, which is why I wrote the song 'Try.'  And now we're realizing that everyone has these self-confidence issues and personal insecurities and it starts when we're young."Colbie says even though she wrote the song, she still finds she has to take its message to heart every day.  "I'm learning to try not to try so hard, and to accept and embrace these things that I wish I could change or have always thought I could change," she says.Unfortunately, she says that some people close to her are still struggling with self-doubt."I have a really good friend...that right now...actually wants to get a nose job," Colbie reveals. "And it makes me so sad because I think she's beautiful the way she is. But she thinks someone is gonna like her better if it's fixed. Taylor Swift Debuts New Song, "Style," in Latest Target Ad

Credit: Sarah BarlowYou may have seen paparazzi photos of Taylor Swift a few months ago, walking around in New York City holding a bunch of balloons.  Well, turns out she wasn't on her way to a birthday party: she was filming her new commercial for Target.  The spot, which just debuted, also features about thirty seconds of a brand-new Taylor song, called "Style."In the spot, Taylor is seen in various New York City locales, and speaks about what she finds inspirational about living in the Big Apple.  "Everything from what people are wearing on the street to the way they're interacting with each other," she says. "To...drive through the West Village at night and you see a couple kissing on the street or you see someone fighting outside their apartment...you see so much humanity on a daily basis that even if you're not inspired by your own life that day, you can be inspired by someone else's life."As for "Style," it's an upbeat tune, in which Taylor sings, "You've got the long hair slicked back, white t-shirt/And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt/And when we go crashing down, we come back every time/Because we never go out of style, we never go out of style.""Style," which some speculate was inspired by former beau Harry Styles, is on Taylor's new album, 1989, due out Monday.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

James Blunt Admits His #1 Hit "You're Beautiful" Is "Annoying"

Scarlet Page/Atlantic RecordsIt's not like we don't already know this, but James Blunt is finally owning up to it: his #1 hit "You're Beautiful," he admits, is "annoying."In an interview with Hello! magazine, James says "You're Beautiful" is the reason he's been the target of so much abuse over the years, and that's because, he says, it was over-marketed.  Speaking about his debut album, Back to Bedlam, he says, "There was one song that was force-fed down people's throats -- 'You're Beautiful' -- and it became annoying. And then people start to associate the artist with the same word." "I think, at the end of the day, I was marketed by a record company to appeal to women during Desperate Housewives' commercials and you lose 50 per cent of the population in doing so," he adds.James, a former soldier, says the marketing also "painted me out as an insanely serious person, an earnest person and, as all my friends know, I'm anything but.""I have a couple of over-emotional miserable songs that I’m known for, but I think it’s turned that corner now," he tells Hello! "People can see I don’t take myself that seriously."That's evident in what James tells Hello! about his and his new wife's plans to have kids one day."Having children seems like an amazing thing to do," says James, who got married last month in Mallorca, Spain. "A lot of my friends and family have done it. It would be a shame not to experience that. Failing that, I'll just have to buy a little dog."Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

"The Voice" Recap: The Battle Rounds End with a Gwen Steal

Trae Patton/NBCThe Voice wrapped up its Battle Rounds Tuesday night on NBC. Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani all rounded out their teams to eight artists each.Gwen was the only coach who still had a steal to use entering the one-hour episode. She spent it after the final battle, taking Beth Spangler from Team Adam. The guest mentors returned for one more appearance during rehearsals: Alicia Keys, with Team Pharrell; Stevie Nicks, with Team Adam; Gwen's husband, Gavin Rossdale, with her team; and Little Big Town, with Team Blake. The final battle for Team Pharrell involved Brittany Butler and Ricky Manning. The duo was assigned the George Benson version of "On Broadway." Alicia encouraged them in rehearsals to "jazz it out."Adam commented that Ricky took a huge leap in his ability during the battle. He then joked that Ricky strongly resembles actor Joaquin Phoenix. Blake said Ricky has a greater tendency to let things fly on stage. Pharrell named Ricky the winner because of the strides he's made. Pharrell and Gwen consoled a crying Brittany backstage.Blake matched Kensington Moore with Reagan James. They were given the Lorde song "Team." Kensington missed one rehearsal due to illness, so Reagan spent time practicing with Little Big Town's Kimberly Schlapman. Kensington made it back for band rehearsal.Gwen said Reagan's voice was even better than she thought, and Kensington's vocals were dynamic. Adam noted that there was a word or two that got away from Reagan, but Pharrell chimed in that she handled it well. Reagan was declared the winner. At this point in the episode, the show recapped three battles: Allison Bray defeated Fernanda Bosch in a Team Blake matchup; Anita Antoinette advanced over her Team Gwen teammate Mayra Alvarez; and Bryana Salaz beat out Gianna Salvato for Team Gwen.Team Adam closed out the episode with a battle between Beth Spangler and Mia Pfirrman. They perform a duet of "I Turn to You," the single by on-again, off-again Voice coach Christina Aguilera. Stevie advised them not to emulate Christina, because Christina is too powerful of a vocalist.Pharrell saw potential in both, but sided with Beth. Gwen felt the song better suited Mia, and said she would choose her if the decision was hers to make. Adam went with Mia. Gwen then used her steal on Beth.Next Monday night on NBC, The Voice will begin its Knockout Rounds. Taylor Swift will serve as an adviser for all four teams. Here's a rundown of the artists who have advanced to the Knockout Rounds:Team Adam: Alessandra Castronovo, Blessing Offor, Chris Jamison, Damien, Matt McAndrew, Mia Pfirrman, Rebekah Samarin, Toia Jones. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel Receive Tabloid Apology for False Flirting Re

David Becker/Getty ImagesJustin Timberlake and his wife, actress Jessica Biel, have settled their lawsuit against Britain's Heat magazine for publishing what they claim was a "false and unfounded story," implying their marriage was in trouble, E!Online reports. The September 6-12 edition of Heat magazine published an article under the headlines: "Justin Timberlake Gets Flirty with Another Woman, It Is Not His Wife!" and "The Flirty Photos That Rocked Justin and Jessica's Marriage."On Tuesday, representatives of the celebrity gossip magazine read an apology at the High Court in Dublin, Ireland, and retracted the story, which featured pictures of Timberlake at a party in a Paris nightclub. The defense stated the article "was based on an unfounded report regarding Justin Timberlake's alleged behavior at a club following a performance in Paris to celebrate a birthday and also included a number of purported statements improperly attributed to Jessica Biel, which Heat now understands had never been made by her."The defense statement continued, "The Defendant accepts that the article was false and withdraws any inferences that questioned the state of Justin and Jessica's marriage. The Defendant regrets any embarrassment caused to the couple and unreservedly apologizes to them."Paul Tweed, an attorney representing Justin and Jessica, said in a statement that the couple is "very satisfied with this categoric retraction of what was a false and unfounded story, together with the comprehensive apology from Bauer Consumer Media, the publishers of Heat magazine."Tweed said the couple "will not hesitate to take similar legal action if false allegations regarding the state of their marriage are repeated."Details about any possible financial settlement were not disclosed.Timberlake, 33 and Biel, 32, married in 2012.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Adele Is in "Spectacular" Voice, Not Rushing New Album, Says Collaborator

Cliff Lipson/CBSNow that we know that Adele's new album won't see the light of day until 2015, we've got plenty of time to speculate on what it might sound like -- and it seems that even the people who collaborated with the star on the disc have no idea how the project is shaping up.Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren, who's written numerous hits for the likes of Celine Dion, Cher, Toni Braxton and Aerosmith, tells the British the paper The Sun, "I flew to London to work on new stuff with Adele last year. We did some great songs but I don’t know if they’ve made the record. I don’t think anybody does."Explaining why it might be taking Adele so long to come up with the follow-up to her world-beating album 21, Warren says, "She has a mind of her own. Nobody rushes Adele or makes decisions for her, which is probably why she’s a great artist. She wants to get it right.”However, Warren can confirm that Adele's voice seems to be in great shape.  You might recall that the singer had to have vocal cord surgery in 2011, but Warren says, "She was singing her a** off when I was in the studio. Her voice was spectacular.”OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder also worked with Adele on the album, but he's also said he doesn't know much about the final product.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
