Adele Is in "Spectacular" Voice, Not Rushing New Album, Says Collaborator

Cliff Lipson/CBSNow that we know that Adele's new album won't see the light of day until 2015, we've got plenty of time to speculate on what it might sound like -- and it seems that even the people who collaborated with the star on the disc have no idea how the project is shaping up.Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren, who's written numerous hits for the likes of Celine Dion, Cher, Toni Braxton and Aerosmith, tells the British the paper The Sun, "I flew to London to work on new stuff with Adele last year. We did some great songs but I don’t know if they’ve made the record. I don’t think anybody does."Explaining why it might be taking Adele so long to come up with the follow-up to her world-beating album 21, Warren says, "She has a mind of her own. Nobody rushes Adele or makes decisions for her, which is probably why she’s a great artist. She wants to get it right.”However, Warren can confirm that Adele's voice seems to be in great shape.  You might recall that the singer had to have vocal cord surgery in 2011, but Warren says, "She was singing her a** off when I was in the studio. Her voice was spectacular.”OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder also worked with Adele on the album, but he's also said he doesn't know much about the final product.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Don't Hate Taylor Swift Because She Has Security Guards

ABC/Lou RoccoTaylor Swift never goes anywhere without her security guards these days, but it's not because she's got an inflated opinion of how important she is. Unfortunately, it's become a necessity, because some people act a little crazy around her."I fought the idea of having security for a very long time, because I really value normalcy. I really do. I like to be able to take a drive by myself. Haven't done that in six years," Taylor tells Esquire magazine.  But she has to take precautions, she tells the magazine, "because [of] just the sheer number of men we have in a file who have showed up at my house, showed up at my mom's house, threatened to either kill me, kidnap me, or marry me.""This is the strange and sad part of my life that I try not to think about," she continues. "I try to be lighthearted about it, because I don't ever want to be scared. I don't want to be walking down the street scared. And when I have security, I don't have to be scared."Despite her security, Taylor says she still tries to go out and interact with people in a normal manner, but if she feels like she just can't deal with the attention, she'll stay home."I just have to wake up in the morning and say, 'How am I feeling today?'" she tells the magazine. "If someone asks for a picture, am I gonna feel imposed upon today because I'm dealing with my own stuff? Am I gonna take my own stuff out on some innocent 14-year-old today and be in a bad mood? Okay, maybe not … Maybe I won't leave the house.""I try really hard not to take bad days out on other people," Taylor adds. "Because I will get asked for an autograph, and I will get asked for a picture, and there will be someone with their cell phone filming me at a restaurant. If I'm not in the mood for that, I just kind of stay in. And that's fine. Those days don't happen very often. I try really hard to keep it light."Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Josh Groban's New Girlfriend Explains How They Met

Credit: Olaf HeineNow that 2 Broke Girls star Kat Dennings and boyfriend Josh Groban are public with their romance, the actress is sharing how the two met. Apparently, Kat has her co-star, Beth Behrs, to thank for her newfound happiness."She's always talked about how great he is and they've been friends for years," Kat explained on Tuesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "And she thought we were both, you know, nerds. So, there, she was right." Before Beth hooked her up with Josh, Kat said she had never met the singer but often exchanged tweets with him. Gotye Not Sure He'll Ever Release Music Under that Name Again

Credit: Cybele MalinowksiGotye -- the stage name of Australian artist Wally De Backer -- hasn't released any new music under that name since he won three Grammys for his hit "Somebody That I Used to Know" and his album Making Mirrors.  And now, he says he never will again...possibly.In an oddly-worded online posting, Gotye writes, "NEW GOTYE MUSIC. There will be no new Gotye music.  Wait, maybe there will be. I’m not entirely sure right now. There are many contingencies."He then muses about the fact that the world getting noisier and people are getting deafer, then asks rhetorically, if he did make a new Gotye album, "Will anybody hear this work?"  He adds, " I don’t know. But I think about these things.   One thing you can count on: I will do my best to make it enjoyable for both of us."He then announces that he's started a new record label called Spirit Level, and that he's making new music with his old band The Basics, who he went back to recording and touring with after "Somebody That I Used to Know" became a worldwide smash. If Gotye doesn't record any new music under that name, he'll be that rare artist who managed to win one of the most prestigious awards at the Grammys -- Record of the Year -- and then never be heard from again.  Nearly every artist who ever won that category is a household name, except perhaps Domenico Modugno, who won it in 1959, the very first year it was given out.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Billy Joel Reveals Why He (Probably) Won't Make Another Album Ever Again

Courtesy: Library of CongressWhile Billy Joel continues to pack fans into New York's Madison Square Garden every month -- as part of his ongoing residency there -- fans are still hoping that he might one day decide to make a new album.  But in a new interview with The New Yorker, Billy says that's not likely to happen. "I've had my say," he explains.“Some people think it’s because I’m lazy or I’m just being contrary," he tells The New Yorker, explaining why he hasn't put out an album of original pop songs since 1993's River of Dreams. "But, no, I think it’s just -- I’ve had my say. If I put out an album now, it would probably sell pretty well, because of who I am, but that’s no reason to do it. I’d want it to be good.""I’ve seen artists on that treadmill, putting out albums year after year, and the albums get worse and worse, less and less interesting, and it’s, like, 'Maybe you should stop,'" he adds.  In addition, Billy thinks actually recording a new album would just be too much of a hassle."I’m not crazy about going into a recording studio and doing that kind of life again, or taking on another project where there’s other people involved -- arrangers and orchestrators and conductors and producers. I don’t want to deal with it...You have to have a certain amount of ambition to want to do all that," he tells The New Yorker.  "And I look back at the guy who was the recording artist, this Billy Joel guy, and I think, Who the f**k was that guy? He was very ambitious, very driven, and I don’t feel like that anymore.”And then there's the personal aspect of it.  Billy says he doesn't want to write songs, only to have people pick them apart for clues to his personal life.“I had gone through this celebrity craziness with Christie [Brinkley], and the divorce," he says, talking about the time of River of Dreams and its aftermath. "I felt like there was a proctoscope up my butt. Everybody interrogating, analyzing -- everything I wrote was fraught with meanings -- and I said, 'Wait a minute, I don’t want to rip myself open and let everyone see everything.' It was no longer comfortable. 'Enough! I gave you enough!'”Still, Billy tells The New Yorker that he's been working on a series of "tone poems" called The Scrimshaw Pieces, which are meant to tell the history of Long Island.  However, he has no plans to release that music any time soon.  In fact, he hasn't actually recorded a lot of it, and says even he's on the verge of forgetting some of it.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

"The Voice" Recap: Adam Steals Two Artists as Battle Rounds Continue

Trae Patton/NBCThe second week of Battle Rounds on The Voice began Monday night on NBC. The highlight of the night was Adam Levine stealing two artists: Blessing Offor and Toia Jones. The guest mentors were back to instruct the artists during rehearsals. Alicia Keys joined Team Pharrell Williams; Stevie Nicks assisted Team Adam; Gwen Stefani's husband, Gavin Rossdale, helped her team; and Little Big Town tutored Team Blake Shelton.Team Adam's Damien and Kelli Douglas were the first two artists to battle it out on Monday night. Adam assigned them "Knock on Wood," by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas, among other musicians. Stevie lamented the fact that one of them would have to leave Adam's team, and jokingly vowed to personally steal the loser of the battle.Following Damien and Kelli's performance, Blake said Adam's decision would simply come down to a matter of taste. Gwen quipped that she was too distracted by Kelli's body to focus on her singing. Adam named Damien the winner, later explaining to the cameras that the contestant had immersed himself in the song. Kelli was dismissed.Jessie Pitts and Ryan Sill of Team Gwen were next up. They covered "I Need Your Love," by Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding. Gavin detected a boy-band-singer-type quality in Ryan during rehearsals.Blake felt Jessie had won the battle because the song had been more of a challenge for her. Pharrell thought it better suited Ryan, but Adam disagreed. Gwen picked Ryan, while Blake used the second of his two allotted steals on Jessie.Blind singer Blessing Offor and teenager Katriz Trinidad went head-to-head for Team Pharrell. They were given Stevie Wonder's "Do I Do." In rehearsals, Alicia taught Katriz how to move her body to the song.Adam and Blake both felt Katriz rose to the challenge, since Blessing is the more accomplished singer. Pharrell selected Katriz as the winner. Adam then swooped in and tried to steal Blessing. The Maroon 5 singer explained that his wife Behati Prinsloo's first name means "blessing" in Swahili, so he was meant to coach Blessing. Gwen made an attempt to steal Blessing, too, but he joined Team Adam.Ethan Butler and Matt McAndrew were paired up for Team Adam. They tackled Coldplay's first hit, "Yellow." Stevie encouraged them not to be too loud with their vocals, because they were also trying to "break hearts" with the lyrics.Pharrell said the song was in Matt's wheelhouse, but Ethan surprised him. Gwen said she enjoyed every bit of the performance. Adam went with Matt. Ethan was not saved. The first and only Team Blake battle of the night pit Bree Fondacaro against Taylor Brashears. They sang Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good." Little Big Town noted Taylor's purity and power in contrast to Bree's texture.Adam commented it was as if Bree was singing alone in her bedroom during the battle, while Taylor was connecting with the lyrics. Blake added that Bree gets lost in herself during a performance, and Taylor gets lost in the song. Taylor advanced, and Bree is eliminated. In the final battle of the night, Team Pharrell's DaNica Shirey and Toia Jones belted out Beyoncé's "Halo."Adam said performing a Beyoncé song is like slaying a dragon, but both artists slayed the dragon. Pharrell complimented both for recognizing the need to sing with conviction. He named DaNica the winner. Adam and Gwen both tried to steal Toia; she settled on Adam. The two-hour episode also featured a sneak peek at Gwen's colorful video for her just-released single, "Baby Don't Lie." The full version premieres Tuesday on Vevo. The final night of Battle Rounds will take place Tuesday night on NBC at 8 p.m. Eastern time.Follow --ABCNewsRadio!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Brand-New Five for Fighting Song to Feature in 100th Episode of "Hawaii Five-0"

Bryan SpicerThe 100th episode of CBS' Hawaii Five-0 will air November 7, and it comes with a special musical treat: a brand-new song by Five for Fighting. The song is called "All for One," and it'll be available on iTunes on November 7, the same day the episode airs.  Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik was specially commissioned by CBS to create the tune, and was asked to custom-tailor it to fit the show; specifically, to sum up the past five years.  A snippet of the song is currently streaming on The Hollywood Reporter's website."A good friend of mine...who works for CBS, an executive over there, brought me to see Peter Lenkov, who's the executive producer of Hawaii Five-O. And Peter is a fan," John tells ABC News Radio about how he got tapped for the project. "And they were looking for something special for their 100th episode and they wanted an original song. And they pitched me on the concept, which was 'ohana,' as they would say -- [a] family bonding song, that kind of reflected the characters' journey the last five years, and I was intrigued by it."John has created music for movies in the past, and seen Five for Fighting songs featured in both films and on TV.  But he says this project was challenging because the first time anyone will hear the song is when the 100th episode airs.  As a result, he says, he knew he had to make it compelling enough that viewers would enjoy it, even though they weren't familiar with it."That for me were the two components that I really wanted to focus on: make a very clear lyric and have a production that can keep people intrigued and engaged for three minutes, which is a long time for a song no one's ever heard," he tells ABC News Radio. "So that was the dynamic."While John didn't get to actually see the episode before he wrote the song -- it wasn't completed yet -- they did show him the script.  In addition, he says, "I went back and watched the pilot [episode] and kind of reacquainted myself with the characters, where this whole thing started. So that's what was fun for me, it was a little different than my typical film project."  You'll be able to hear the song on iTunes and see it featured in the November 7 episode.  Hawaii Five-0 airs Fridays at 9 p.m. Eastern time on CBS.Follow --ABCNewsRadio!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Taylor Swift Derides "Sexist" Criticism of Her Relationship Songs

ABC/Jon LeMayIt's true Taylor Swift writes songs about her ex-boyfriends.  But plenty of male artists also write songs about their love lives, yet they don't seen to come in for the kind of criticism that Taylor does.  And that, says Taylor, is sexist.Speaking to the Australian radio station 2DayFM, Taylor says, "You're gonna have people who are gonna see the depth from which you approached a song -- the fact that you put your real emotions into it, and that that's valuable and that's good and that's real. And then you're gonna have people who are gonna say, 'Oh, y'know, like she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends.'  And I think, frankly, that's a very sexist angle to take.""No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says it about Bruno Mars," Taylor points out. "They're all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriend, their love life, and no one raises a red flag there."Taylor's correct. For example, Bruno's song "When I Was Your Man" is about his fears of losing his current girlfriend, while Ed's song "Don't" is about how his ex-girlfriend cheated on him, yet no one seems to criticize those artists for "only" writing about their relationships.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Gavin DeGraw Initially Thought Releasing His New Best-Of Album Meant His Career

James Minchin III/RCA RecordsGavin DeGraw's been making records for more than ten years now, so it's not surprising that his record company approached him to put together a greatest hits compilation: Finest Hour: the Best of Gavin DeGraw arrives in stores Tuesday.  But Gavin says initially, he didn't like the idea, because he thought it meant his career was over.Gavin tells ABC News Radio, "It's so funny, you know, when it was proposed to me, the idea....'Uh, hey, how do you feel about a best-of record?' I said, 'Umm, isn't that for when you're done making albums at the end of your career?'"But he says they persuaded him that it was the right thing to do by spinning it in a different way."They said, 'You can perceive it that way, but the issue is: How do you feel about being able to sum up your career so far -- to give a new audience the opportunity to hear a collection of your music that you personally picked for them -- and also have the opportunity to put a few new songs on there that your current fan base can check out?'"  Gavin recalls his record label telling him. "So I said, 'You know what? Since you phrase it that way, I like the idea!' So I went for it."Finest Hour features three new songs, and Gavin says that while he's in the process of working on his next record, the album gives him the opportunity to give his fans something to tide them over."I thought it was a really good opportunity to get some new material out there, give me a little bit of time to write another new album as well and to introduce my music to people who haven't heard my music before," he tells ABC News Radio. "To give them an idea of the type of music that I make. So they can get a little bit of an idea so they can go, 'You know what? I like it!' or 'I don't like it. I don't like this guy!'"The disc features songs from every phrase of Gavin's career, from "I Don't Want to Be," "Follow Through" and "In Love with a Girl," to "Not Over You," "Soldier" and "Best I Ever Had."  Gavin says, "I look back now at this little chunk of material. I'm thinking, 'Wow, that's crazy. I remember the phone call I had that inspired that story, to go and write that song,' so there's certainly a tremendous amount of nostalgia there."But the nostalgia is tempered by the three new songs: the current single "Fire," the song "You Got Me," from the recent film Dolphin Tale 2, and "Not Our Fault," which Gavin co-wrote with none other than One Direction's Harry Styles.  Asked if he'd work with Harry again, Gavin tells ABC News Radio, "I definitely would. I think that Harry is really talented. You know, I was really impressed with him.""He's a greatly successful guy, and he's successful at a very young age, and I think that he's going to have other success beyond what is the standard pop success. I really do," adds Gavin. "I think he's good enough to sustain it."Now that the best-of is being released, Gavin says it makes him realize that his career isn't over at all: In fact, it's far from it."Honestly, I know it's called 'The Best Of,' it's a best-of album, but, I feel like I'm just getting started," he says. "It's all just really starting right now." Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Sheryl Crow Finds Buyer for $12 Million L.A. Compound

Interscope RecordsFor the past two years, Sheryl Crow has been singing "All I Wanna Do...is sell my multi-milliondollar compound in L.A."  Now, she finally has.AOL's Real Estate blog reports that the Grammy-winner initially listed the property in the Hollywood Hills for just under 16 million bucks back in 2012, but took it off the market in 2013 when no buyer could be found.  It came back on the market again this past April for the "bargain" price of $11,950,000 and now she's found a buyer. Why is the property so expensive?  Because it's made up of three houses that sit on 10 acres and total over 10,000 square feet.  Sheryl bought each home separately around 1998 and then combined them.  Together, the three homes have 11 bedrooms, 8 1/2 baths, a library, wine cellar, chef's kitchen, music room and more.   The property also includes trails, a campsite, a playground and an infinity pool.According to AOL, Sheryl was also trying to sell another property in College Grove, Tennessee but that's now been taken off the market because it failed to find a buyer.  The singer's portfolio also includes an estate in Nashville, and a beachfront home in Florida.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Taylor Swift Reveals First Song on "1989": "Welcome to New York"

Big Machine RecordsTaylor Swift has revealed the first track on her new album. "The first song on 1989 is a song called 'Welcome to New York,'" she explained on Monday's Good Morning America.  "And I wanted to start the album with 'Welcome To New York' because New York has been an important landscape and location for the story of my life in the last couple of years," Taylor said.Written by Taylor and Ryan Tedder,"Welcome to New York" is available tonight at midnight exclusively on iTunes, but only if you've pre-ordered 1989.  "Welcome to New York" follows the release of the singles "Out of the Woods" and "Shake It Off." Taylor said the Big Apple definitely inspired the track. "I dreamt about moving to New York, I obsessed over moving to New York and then I did it," Taylor said. "The inspiration that I found in that city is kind of hard to describe and hard to compare to any other force of inspiration I’ve ever experienced in my life.""It’s like an electric city and I approached moving there with such wide-eyed optimism and sort of saw it as a place of endless potential and possibilities and you can kind of hear that reflected in this music and in this first song especially," she continued.1989 will be officially released October 27.Follow @ABCNewsRadio!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
