Photo: Eleanor StillsDavid Crosby apparently is close to finishing his long-in-the-works new solo album. The folk-rock great revealed some details about the status of the project in a recent series of messages he posted over the last couple of weeks on his Twitter account.
The singer/songwriter reports that he's recorded about 11 "real songs" for the album, adding that his friends have told him that the material is strong.
"I think that might be it…we might have it," he declares. "I wish I could tell how it feels…a year and [a] half, maybe two…doing it on [g]rocery money and the favors of friends and family."
Crosby also shared some information about a few of the specific tracks that will appear on the record. One tune is titled "Set That Baggage Down," and he also worked on a "truly excellent song" that his son and longtime collaborator James Raymond wrote called "What's Broken." David also mentions a tune named "Find a Name" that he co-wrote with Raymond and Marcus Eaton and says is mostly in 5/4 time.
The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee now is in Europe, where Crosby, Stills & Nash are set to launch a new tour leg Thursday night in Dresden, Germany. Crosby says he plans to mix his as-yet-untitled album solo album when he's back in the U.S. in August.

Glass Onyon PRTwisted Tales, the final studio album recorded by late Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, was released on Tuesday. The 10-song collection is a collaboration with veteran blues guitarist Roy Rogers, who also worked with Manzarek on two other albums, 2008's Ballads Before the Rain and 2011's Translucent Blues.
Twisted Tales features tunes that showcase Manzarek's classic driving keyboards and Rogers' slithery slide guitar, with lyrics contributed by a variety of writers and poets. Ray also lends his vocal talents to many of the songs.
"In our last meeting together before his passing, Ray and I were both very excited about the upcoming release of Twisted Tales," Rogers says in a statement. "We signed off on the artwork and agreed that it should be released sooner than later. So, honoring that decision, I have proceeded with the release."
Rogers adds that he and Manzarek "both were proud of this recording," while noting that the album "is dedicated to Ray's memory."
Twisted Tales is available as a CD and as a digital download. It can be purchased at Manzarek-RogersBand.com, as well as via Amazon.com, iTunes and online music sellers.
In other news, a documentary about Manzarek's collaboration with Rogers currently is being edited and is expected to make the rounds at film festivals this fall. Ray died on May 20 at age 74 after a battle with bile-duct cancer.

JerryGarcia.comWarren Haynes has long had a strong connection to The Grateful Dead, having performed with the band's surviving members when they reunited as The Dead and toured and recorded with founding Dead bassist Phil Lesh's side project Phil Lesh & Friends. Now, the Allman Brothers Band guitarist has hit the road as part of a unique tribute to late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia. The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Tour, which kicked off Tuesday in Pittsburgh, features Haynes performing specially arranged versions of Garcia's songs accompanied by different orchestras at each stop.
The trek was sanctioned and curated by Garcia's estate and family, and Haynes tells ABC News Radio that he jumped at the chance to participate in the musical extravaganza when he was asked.
He reveals that when he started compiling a list of songs that would be performed at the shows, he considered material that not only he "would enjoy singing and playing but, most importantly, would really be brought to life in a symphonic way."
Warren also says he contacted Lesh to ask for his help in suggesting people who could help with orchestral arrangements for Garcia's music, noting that Phil was "quite the expert in classical music and symphonic music where I'm just not."
Haynes tells ABC News Radio that he wanted to make sure that the arrangements reflected improvisational and exploratory nature of Garcia and The Grateful Dead.
"I just didn't want to see, like, a normal version of a band with a symphony," he notes. "I thought it's got to be a little bit left of center, it's got to be a little avant garde. So, choosing the arrangers and then working together on the arrangements in a way where a lot of the Grateful Dead philosophy shows up [was important]."
Keeping true to the spirit of Garcia and The Dead, Haynes promises that "the set list won't be the same from show to show…We'll try and vary it to whatever extent we can."
A total of nine dates have been confirmed for the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Tour, which is scheduled through an August 4 concert in Los Angeles. The next stop takes place Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina, and will feature Haynes accompanied by the North Carolina Symphony.
Here are all of the upcoming dates on the trek, according to JerryGarcia.com/Events:
