When Taylor Swift snagged a Shorty Award last night, she accepted the honor in a unique way: by rapping Young Buck’s 2004 hit, “Shorty Wanna Ride.”
Taylor wasn’t able to attend the awards ceremony in person, but she sent an adorably awkward taped message thanking her fans for helping her win the best singer prize for her stellar social media presence.
“When I was first told the news that I’d won a Shorty Award I was conflicted, because I’m very tall,” Taylor joked. “I did not understand what the honor was for. Now I understand it’s because you guys have been unbelievable on social media, and I’m really happy about that.”
She added that the award also made her think of the lyrics to the Young Buck song, and she proceeded to rap, “Shorty wanna ride wit me, ride wit me, we can get low.”
Taylor interrupted her own rap interlude to scold herself. “Stop it, stop it, you’re in public,” she chastised herself.
The 7th Annual Shorty Awards were held Monday night at the TimesCenter in New York, hosted by comedienne and former Saturday Night Live cast member Rachel Dratch. The awards celebrated the best social media content on the web, including Vine, Twitter, Instagram, and even emojis.
