Meghan Trainor Says Wearing Black Makes Her Feel “Powerful”

Brooke NiparMeghan Trainor is quite a colorful performer, but when it comes to clothes, she’s all about the black. The singer and budding fashion maven tells Glamour magazine that black is her go-to color when deciding what to wear.

“When I want to feel my best, I put on a pair of heels and a comfortable, cute outfit. Wearing black is always the best color for making me feel empowered,” she says. “Putting on an all-black outfit with a bold-color lip instantly makes me feel both confident and powerful.”

She also counts turtlenecks and A-line skirts among her wardrobe staples. Meghan, who recently partnered with full-figured fashion and beauty brand FullBeauty, admits she wasn’t always so style-savvy.

“I was never into fashion while growing up, but I’ve learned so much about it,” she says. “I love it so much and am having fun with fashion and experimenting.”

That includes trying more clothes that accentuate her shape.  “I just started wearing lots of pencil skirts, especially with [the video for] ‘Dear Future Husband,’” she says. “Just like dresses, they’re comfortable and hug the body in the most flattering way. I’ve found that circle skirts are also favorable to all body types.”

Meghan adds that her fashion sense has evolved with her sudden rise to fame, but she also knows when to keep things casual. “Since entering the public eye, I’ve learned that you truly need to grow into your own personal style and confidently own that,” she says. “Knowing that I’ll probably have my picture taken every day, I make sure to think about what I’m wearing in the morning. I still love wearing leggings and sweatshirts with my Ugg boots on travel days or time off though.”
